Photo essay No. 002 · Landscape
Autumn held
still on the water
A slow circuit of Stourhead: bright lawns, wooded paths, borrowed views and buildings waiting around the next bend.
01 / Twelve frames
Stourhead reveals itself gradually. The house gives way to the lake; the lake pulls the eye towards trees, temples and the gothic tower above the valley.
In early autumn the colour had only just begun to turn. Green still dominated, interrupted by a red gate, a copper canopy and one small fallen fruit on the path.

Every path seems to promise
one more view.

02 / Field note
A landscape
made for
wandering.
The grand views do the obvious work, but the quieter details stay longest: light through leaves, a path disappearing, a flash of red against all that green.
